Last Minute Shopping
The hour grows late, and you thought your shopping was done, but you forgot someone. Whom?
Your husband's "office wife"? Maybe she'd like an art-and- poetry book or some literary fiction.
Your brother's stepdaughter with the high GPA? What was her name again? She might like a novel for her Kindle.
The dentist who opted to fill your tooth instead of putting an expensive crown on it? This 2011 calendar will have his patients dropping their jaws, thereby saving him a step.
The only classmate at the reunion who gained as much weight as you? Well, a gift might be overkill, but you can show solidarity with a handpainted card.
There! Now you're done.Happy Holidays!

Ninety
I’m taking everything off
she announces, clawing at her clothes.
A new scar gleams on her mended hip.
Where did this come from, where is it going?
A cross-hatched seam
in the center of a body’s landslide.
A cradle for children, a long-ago man; a broken wing.
She brailles her fingertip down the red
raised tracks. This is not what she expected.
A railroad crossing pocked with stop signs.
A fire escape going down.
