Why I Wear My Hair Long
I want to wrap it
around you
like a silk shirt
button it
slowly,
carefully,
facing you
let the fringes
tickle your hips
until we ride
strong silken horses
glued on
& my flag
unfurls
a few strands
sticking
to your
lips.

This poem has been set to music by Tom Cipullo as part of a song cyle, "How to Get Heat Without Fire": Melanie Mitrano, a fabulous New York soprano, has revisited the score. Here's an audio clip. Thanks, Marilyn!
